Flying business class within Europe is always a slightly different proposition compared to long-haul premium cabins. With KLM, the experience is less about lie-flat seats and more about smoother ground handling, extra comfort and a more refined onboard product. On this particular flight, the journey highlighted both the strengths and the limitations of European business class, in a very KLM-specific way.

SH Premium Lounge Hanoi: A Pleasant Surprise for a Credit Card Lounge
I generally walk into credit card lounges with fairly low expectations. Years of traveling have conditioned me to expect crowded rooms, uninspired food and an overall experience that feels more like a waiting area with snacks than a proper lounge. At Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport, those expectations were particularly modest, especially given the strong presence of Vietnam Airlines and its Lotus Lounge right next door. Surprisingly, the SH Premium Lounge managed to exceed those expectations, and in several ways, I actually preferred it over the airline lounge beside it.
(more…)Vietnam Airlines Lotus Lounge Hanoi: Surprisingly Weak Catering
Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport is home to Vietnam Airlines’ flagship lounge, a space that on paper should represent the very best the national carrier has to offer. As a hub lounge used by premium cabin passengers, elite frequent flyers and partner airline guests, expectations are naturally high. Unfortunately, while the lounge makes a strong first impression visually, the overall experience ends up being far more style than substance.

China Eastern Airlines is one of those carriers that doesn’t always get the attention it deserves, especially among Western frequent flyers. In my experience, it consistently offers very competitive pricing on both domestic and regional routes, often undercutting rivals while still delivering a product that feels perfectly adequate, and at times even pleasantly surprising. For travelers who value SkyTeam benefits or simply want a reliable way to get around Asia, China Eastern is frequently an excellent choice.
(more…)KLM European Economy Class – A Refreshing Surprise
When flying around Europe, expectations for economy class have become increasingly modest over the years. Many airlines in the region have stripped their short-haul product down to the bare minimum, often charging extra for everything beyond the seat itself. Against that backdrop, KLM continues to position itself as one of the stronger airlines within SkyTeam, and after my recent experience, it’s easy to see why.

Shanghai Pudong Airport is quite a functional airport, and finding a lounge that makes the pre-flight experience pleasant is a welcome addition. China Eastern Airlines’ Lounge 36 turned out to be exactly that: a solid, functional and genuinely comfortable space that does what an airport lounge should do: help you relax, eat well and forget that you’re about to board a long flight.

Cathay Pacific is known for delivering a consistent premium experience across its network, and its lounge at Shanghai Pudong International Airport is no exception. For anyone flying on Cathay Pacific or holding the appropriate oneworld status, this lounge is a genuine highlight of the airport and a welcome retreat from the often hectic terminal below.

If you’ve booked a Finnair flight recently and noticed it’s operated by DAT LT, you’re probably wondering what that actually means for your experience in Business Class and beyond. Finnair, like many European carriers, sometimes leases aircraft and crew from partner airlines to cover busy schedules or aircraft shortages. One of these partners lately has been DAT LT (operating under Finnair flight numbers).
(more…)Korean Air Domestic Economy Class: Jeju to Seoul
Sometimes frequent flying rewards you in unexpected ways, and this flight is a perfect example of that. On a previous trip, Finnair had to reroute me from Milan to Seoul, and instead of flying my usual oneworld combination, I ended up on Korean Air. At the time I didn’t think much of it, but once the miles posted, I realised just how generous the accrual had been. That single international economy class flight credited enough Korean Air miles to redeem a one-way domestic flight within South Korea. One long-haul economy ticket turning into a free domestic flight? That’s real, tangible value, and a great reminder that alliance-hopping occasionally pays off in a big way.

Kaohsiung International Airport doesn’t exactly overwhelm you with lounge choices, and if you’re flying with China Airlines or a SkyTeam partner, the China Airlines lounge is likely where you’ll end up before departure. I recently stopped by ahead of a flight and came away with fairly modest impressions. This is very much a functional lounge rather than a destination in its own right.
