Review: CAC Plaza Premium Lounge Cairo Airport

If you’re passing through Cairo International Airport and considering the CAC Plaza Premium Lounge, it’s important to set your expectations correctly. While the name “Plaza Premium” might evoke a sense of comfort and elevated airport luxury, this particular lounge falls short of that promise in several key ways. At least I was a bit disappointed by this particular lounge.

Location: Easy to Miss if You’re Not Paying Attention

Finding the CAC Plaza Premium Lounge is not as straightforward as one might hope, especially after a long flight. Immediately after clearing priority passport control, you need to take a sharp left. There is a staff member checking that your passport has been stamped, and right after passing them, you must commit to walking left without hesitation. If you continue straight, you will drift deeper into the terminal and completely miss the lounge.

This placement feels unintuitive and poorly signposted, which adds unnecessary friction to what should be a seamless premium experience. For a lounge that aims to serve international travelers, clearer guidance would make a significant difference.

Decoration and Atmosphere: Functional but Forgettable

The lounge itself presents a very simplistic, yet functional design, which is not a bad thing at all. The size, however, is a noticeable drawback. The lounge can feel cramped, especially during busier hours, which detracts from any sense of exclusivity or comfort. Seating can feel limited, and the overall layout lacks the spaciousness that travelers expect from a premium lounge.

The design is simplistic, yet nice

On a positive note, the large windows allow in a generous amount of natural light, which does help brighten the environment. However, the view outside is uninspiring, offering little more than a reminder that you are still firmly in an airport setting. It’s a small consolation in an otherwise underwhelming space.

Food Offering: Minimal and Underwhelming

The food selection at the CAC Plaza Premium Lounge is a bit disappointing. While there are some options available, they lack both variety and substance. You will find pastries, a few salads, and some warm items such as falafel, but the selection feels limited and uninspired.

Some delicious pastries

This is not a place where you can enjoy a satisfying meal before your flight. The offerings feel more like light snacks than proper dining options, and there is a noticeable absence of anything hearty or memorable. For travelers expecting a premium culinary experience, this lounge does not deliver.

Sweets and salads

The overall impression is that food is provided as a formality rather than as a highlight, which significantly diminishes the value of the lounge.

The lunch options are sad

Drinks: A Major Letdown for Many Travelers

One of the most striking limitations of this lounge is the complete absence of alcohol. For many travelers, especially those on long-haul journeys, the ability to unwind with a glass of wine or a beer is part of the lounge experience. Here, that option simply does not exist.

There are windows towards the terminal as well

The drink selection is limited to sodas, juices, and coffee. While these are perfectly acceptable for basic refreshment, they do little to create a sense of indulgence or relaxation. The coffee is serviceable, and the juices are adequate, but nothing stands out.

Final Verdict: A Lounge That Fails to Impress

The CAC Plaza Premium Lounge at Cairo Airport is, at best, a functional space to sit and wait. It provides shelter, a bit of food, and some drinks, but it lacks the comfort, quality, and attention to detail that define a truly worthwhile airport lounge. From its awkward location and cramped layout to its uninspired food and limited beverage options, this lounge struggles to justify its premium branding. If you have access and need a quiet place to sit, it serves that purpose. However, if you are expecting a relaxing, enjoyable pre-flight experience, you are likely to leave disappointed.
