I generally walk into credit card lounges with fairly low expectations. Years of traveling have conditioned me to expect crowded rooms, uninspired food and an overall experience that feels more like a waiting area with snacks than a proper lounge. At Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport, those expectations were particularly modest, especially given the strong presence of Vietnam Airlines and its Lotus Lounge right next door. Surprisingly, the SH Premium Lounge managed to exceed those expectations, and in several ways, I actually preferred it over the airline lounge beside it.
That alone already sets the tone. This is not a lounge that will redefine airport luxury on a global scale, but for something accessible via credit cards and lounge programs, it delivers a noticeably better experience than I anticipated.
Location and Access
Finding the SH Premium Lounge is refreshingly easy. After clearing security in the international terminal, you don’t have to wander aimlessly or hunt for hidden elevators. The lounge is located upstairs, and the signage is clear and frequent enough that even first-time visitors should have no trouble locating it. Within a couple of minutes of leaving security, you’re already heading up and into the lounge.

This convenient placement makes it an attractive option even if you don’t have a long layover. It’s close enough that popping in for a quick meal or drink before boarding doesn’t feel like a logistical commitment.
Decoration and Atmosphere
What struck me first upon entering was how calm the space felt. The lounge doesn’t try too hard to impress with flashy design elements or bold colors. Instead, it opts for a subdued, composed aesthetic that immediately lowers the stress level that airports tend to generate. The seating layout is thoughtful, and despite the lounge not being particularly large, it never felt claustrophobic.

Large windows play a big role here. Natural light always makes a difference, and the view outside helps break the monotony of being indoors for hours. It also creates a sense of openness that makes the lounge feel larger than it actually is. Credit card lounges often struggle when it comes to space optimization, but SH Premium does a commendable job of making the most of what it has. Everything feels efficiently arranged without feeling crammed, which is no small feat in a busy Asian hub.

Food Selection
The food offering falls squarely into the “solid but not spectacular” category. On a global scale, this isn’t a buffet that would turn heads in places like Hong Kong or Doha, but it’s perfectly respectable for a lounge of this type. There is a decent variety of hot and cold options, enough to put together a proper meal rather than just snack your way through.

The real standout, though, is the noodle bar. Freshly prepared noodles always elevate a lounge experience, and here it genuinely made a difference. Watching your bowl come together, tailored to your preferences, adds a sense of care that pre-plated buffet items often lack. The result was comforting, flavorful, and easily the highlight of the food offering. For many travelers, that noodle bar alone will justify choosing this lounge over others nearby.

Drinks and Bar Service
The drinks selection is where the SH Premium Lounge really distinguishes itself from the average credit card lounge. There’s a wide range of soft drinks available, covering the usual international brands as well as local options. That alone would be fine, but what really elevates the experience is the staffed bar.

In addition to self-serve bottles and basic mixers, there are bartenders on hand who actually mix drinks to order. The cocktails I saw coming out looked genuinely well-made rather than hastily assembled, and the one I ordered was balanced and enjoyable. It’s a small touch, but one that adds a sense of hospitality and polish that you don’t often find in lounges of this category.
Final Thoughts
The SH Premium Lounge in Hanoi isn’t trying to compete with flagship airline lounges, and that’s perfectly fine. What it does exceptionally well is outperform expectations for a credit card-accessible lounge. Between the calm atmosphere, efficient use of space, enjoyable noodle bar, and surprisingly good bar service, it offers a well-rounded and pleasant pre-flight experience.
Given the choice, I’d happily return here, even with the Vietnam Airlines Lotus Lounge right next door. Sometimes, it’s the lounges you expect the least from that end up being the most satisfying.
