If you’ve booked a Finnair flight recently and noticed it’s operated by DAT LT, you’re probably wondering what that actually means for your experience in Business Class and beyond. Finnair, like many European carriers, sometimes leases aircraft and crew from partner airlines to cover busy schedules or aircraft shortages. One of these partners lately has been DAT LT (operating under Finnair flight numbers).
What “DAT for Finnair” Really Means
DAT LT is the Lithuanian subsidiary of Danish airline DAT, created to offer ACMI and wet-lease services (that’s aircraft + crew) to other airlines.
When you see “DAT for Finnair” in your booking, what’s happened is this:
- Finnair still sells and markets the flight as its own (AY flight number), so you keep all Finnair and oneworld perks like lounge access, priority handling, and Avios/tier point accrual — just like other Finnair flights.
- The plane and crew are supplied by DAT LT under a lease arrangement.

Onboard Service: Familiar Yet Different
Onboard DAT-operated flights, the service concept closely follows Finnair’s standard short-haul offering. In Business Class, this typically means a light meal or sandwich accompanied by drinks, rather than a more elaborate dining experience. This is because the catering and overall service framework are defined by Finnair, even though the aircraft and crew are provided by DAT.
That said, there are a few small but noticeable differences compared with flying on an aircraft operated directly by Finnair. While the core product is familiar, the overall feel onboard may differ slightly due to the operator and crew.

Importantly, all the usual Finnair service perks still apply. Lounge access, priority check-in, security and boarding work exactly as they would on any other Finnair flight. Likewise, Finnair Plus and oneworld benefits are fully recognised both on the ground and in the air, so you’ll earn Avios and tier points as normal and receive the same status-based treatment throughout your journey.

Is It a Big Deal?
For most travellers, DAT for Finnair won’t drastically alter your benefits: you still get your status perks, Avios and tier points as normal because the flight is marketed under Finnair.
What might catch you by surprise is:
- Limited Finnish spoken onboard — useful to know if that’s something you value.
- Slightly more basic in-flight experience compared with flights operated by Finnair metal or other partners with stronger European service traditions.
If you care a lot about the language of service or onboard connectivity, it’s worth checking the exact operator on your itinerary before flying — and if it’s DAT LT, expect the crew to operate primarily in English.
