Plaza Premium First Class Lounge Rome Airport Review

The Plaza Premium First Class Lounge at Rome Fiumicino Airport offers a rare and refined airport experience that truly lives up to its name. What makes this lounge particularly unique is that it caters to first class passengers even within the Schengen area, something that is not commonly seen across European airports. While access is typically reserved for first class travelers, there is an interesting exception that makes this lounge accessible to more frequent flyers. Oneworld Emerald status holders flying on an Iberia ticket can enter, which is how I was able to experience it using my Finnair Plus status. For those without status or a qualifying ticket, entry is available for 70 euros, which may seem steep at first glance but quickly proves to be justified once you step inside.

Location of Plaza Premium First Class Lounge Rome

Take these escalators up

The lounge is conveniently located in Terminal 1, though it does require a bit of navigation if you are unfamiliar with the airport layout. To find it, you need to walk toward gate A31 and then head upstairs into the restaurant area. This slightly tucked-away location works in its favor, as it creates a clear separation from the busy terminal below. The moment you arrive upstairs, the atmosphere shifts noticeably, offering a calm and exclusive environment that feels far removed from the crowds.

Elegant Design and Exclusive Atmosphere

The lounge is quite nice

From the moment you enter the Plaza Premium First Class Lounge, the design immediately communicates a sense of exclusivity. The space is thoughtfully curated with a modern yet warm aesthetic that avoids feeling sterile or overly corporate. One of the standout features is the abundance of natural light, thanks to large windows that brighten the entire lounge and create a welcoming ambiance. The seating areas are particularly well designed, offering a variety of options that cater to different needs, whether you are looking to relax quietly or sit more upright for work. Everything about the space feels intentional, comfortable, and distinctly premium.

First Class Dining Experience

The buffet has many exclusive options

The food offering in this lounge is where it truly sets itself apart from the majority of European airport lounges. During breakfast hours, the buffet presents an impressive range of options, including fresh salads, breads, and pastries that are both varied and high in quality.

The à la carte menu

However, the highlight is undoubtedly the à la carte dining menu, which elevates the entire experience to a restaurant-level standard. The dishes are carefully prepared, beautifully presented, and genuinely delicious. This is not just slightly better than a business class lounge—it is significantly above that level. In this case, “first class” is not just a label but a clear reflection of the quality of the dining experience.

Premium Beverage Selection and Bar Service

The beverage offering is equally impressive and complements the food perfectly. Guests can enjoy a selection of fresh juices, including apple, orange, and pineapple, alongside the usual range of soft drinks and coffee. What makes this lounge stand out is the presence of a dedicated bar area staffed by both a bartender and a barista. This adds a level of service that is rarely found in airport lounges, especially within Europe. The highlight of my visit was the coffee, which was prepared by the barista with remarkable skill and attention to detail. It was, without exaggeration, the best coffee I have ever had in my life, and it perfectly encapsulated the level of care and quality that defines this lounge.
