Cathay Pacific The Deck First Class Lounge is Okay

Now that the Wing First Class lounge is closed for renovation, Cathay Pacific has opened a new, and probably temporary, first class lounge in Hong Kong that is also open for oneworld Emerald members: The Deck. It’s a charming little lounge, but I would much rather go to the Pier for a proper first class experience. You can think of the Deck as a miniature version of the Wing or the Pier, a bit like the first class lounge in London.

Location

The Deck is located after security close to gate number 6. Just follow the signs towards gates 5-9. There are also signs pointing towards Cathay Pacific lounge, although these signs don’t indicate that the lounge is for first class passengers. I saw so many grumpy people being turned away as they thought they were going to a business class lounge.

Decoration

I love how Cathay Pacific lounges have a certain signature look. Pleasant dark brown wood and classy chairs. The lounge is quite small, but for its size, it has a dining section, a section for working and one just for relaxing. Cathay Pacific always manages to pull off a calm ambience and the Deck lounge is no exception to that rule.

Nice Cathay style decor

There are dimmer areas that give a more private and luxurious feeling and an open area where you can look downstairs to the gates. It kinda combines the vibes of the Wing and the Pier in one lounge.

Food

The lounge features a first class à la care restaurant and a buffet. I didn’t try the à la carte this time as I was so full from the delicious business class food, if you are interested in the menu, you can look at my post about the Pier. I am a big fan of having both à la carte and a buffet. Sometimes you just can’t eat a full dinner or you simply don’t have time because your layover is so short.

Some of their amazing food options

The buffet food was classy and super delicious. I ate a most amazing salmon sandwich and some delicious pastries. There’s plenty of good choice to fill your stomach with in the Deck.

Drinks

There are two bars in the lounge with bartenders. There are many exclusive beverages you can try. If you are new to Cathay Pacific, I strongly recommend you to try the Cathay Delight mocktail and Cloud 9 cocktail. Those are Cathay Pacific’s signature drinks and they are crazy good.

Conclusions

I suspect this is a temporary first class lounge that is open just for the time the Wing is under renovation. However, it’s great that Cathay Pacific has thought about their customers and that they have opened a new first class lounge not far from the Wing. Of course, this is not as fancy as the Pier or the Wing, but it gets the job done. At any rate, it’s better than let’s say Finnair Platinum Wing.
